Udu drums originated with the Igbo (Ibo) in south-eastern Nigeria. It is an ancient instrument that has developed into a popular percussion instrument. The Tri Sound Ibo drum is traditionally called "Udu Igbah": Udu means pot in the Igbo language, and Igbah means skin drum. In Igbo country there are two versions of udus, the one with a side hole was played by women. The other version is much larger and has only a wide mouth at the top and is often played with a flat padded beater. The Tri Sound Ibo Drum is versatile. It produces a special effect and can almost imitate a talking drum (Ayan in the Yoruba language). In the hands of an experienced musician, the Tri Sound Ibo is an impressive instrument.
