Simple aluminum darbuka in Turkish style with hand-hammered body
MEINL darbukas are in the tradition of the original, esoteric chalice-shaped drums found in the music of Eastern Europe, the Middle East and South Asia. Darbukas are made of thin shells of different metals, each metal giving the different models their particular timbre. The head is secured and tuned with external Turkish-style rings that fit closely to the bowl. Light yet powerful, the darbukas have a deep, full bass. They are suitable for high snapping sounds as well as a wide range of articulated "doum" and "tak" beats.
