The Christmas carol in Europe has a festive and dignified character. African Christmas carols often sound like an invitation to dance; North American Christmas carols, which originated much later than most European carols due to their culture, often have a hit character. In many Latin American Christmas songs, the focus is on festive togetherness; in the gospel songs of African-American cultures, the fun of singing and dancing is often more obvious than the Christmas message.
