The tuning of these "Bala Bambara" balafons is based on the pentatonic C major scale (C - D - E - G - A).
The balafon comes from Burkina Faso. They are designed by craftsmen who use the know-how inherited from their ancestors from father to son.
The notes of these balafons are carved from the wood of trees that have been dead for several years due to old age and of which only heartwood remains. They are then passed through fire to remove liquid or bacteriological substances, which gives them a beautiful and long-lasting sound.
