In kindergartens, clinics and facilities for people with disabilities, these drums are often used for mindfulness exercises and to experience one's own body as pleasantly supplied with blood because of their "feel the sound" abilities. Particularly with hyperactive children wonderful results can be achieved. Attention moves from being "out of oneself" back inwards, the body is perceived again, the system calms down and the child can be reintegrated.
The 8 notes tunedpentatonically in A minor are arranged in a sequence in which the left hand starts at the lowest note on the bottom left, then the next note of the scale is played on the next row of notes with the right hand, continuing left - right - left and down again to the highest note. Arranged in this way, a clear sequence can be followed when playing rhythmically, but you can also experiment intuitively with the tone colors. Playing patterns that please are repeated, from time to time a note breaks out and explores new sound fantasies. Starting as a drum with rhythmic patterns that are staggered in time, melodies slowly build up. The bass slit drum can be played just as well with mallets as with the fingers and hands.
With the mallets , the notes can be struck rhythmically and clearly one after the other. The player can also let the mallets dribble on the notes, i.e. the rubber ball of the mallet isdoped on the tongue and the handle is held as if to remain on the tongue, causing the soft rubber ball to spring back. If you now let the feathering glide not just on one, but over several reeds, fascinating sound patterns are created, which can be combined with the simple striking of the reeds.

The bass slit drum has a stable interior, is made of air-dried padouk and is cleanly tuned. It is the largest from feeltone, unique on the market and popular with young and old. We use padouk because it has particularly good sound properties as tonewood . The selected padouk from Nigeria comes exclusively from controlled and certified logging, which is significantly more expensive than padouk from unclear origins. We as a company are not certified (very bureaucratic and costly, our consumption is too low), but we can always provide the certificate of our wood supplier as proof of our certified padouk. It is an ethical "must" for us to use only such wood. We store the wood in the open air for 2-4 years to achieve the best drying results. Industrially dried padouk is very susceptible to cracking. We endeavor to process these valuable woods, which the trees provide us with, as completely as possible. First the planks for the bass, then the tenor, followed by the soprano and finally the baba and tinka tongs are cut.
