Chalumeau

The chalumeau is an ancient woodwind instrument, older than the modern clarinet. It experienced its peak of popularity between late baroque and early classical music. It has a simple reed and a wooden body with a German style of joint, similar to the recorder, and a clarinet mouthpiece. As an alternative to the recorder, it is very popular, easy to play and produces a soft and warm tone.

Like the clarinet, the chalumeau has a cylindrical body. It is 33 cm long, has 7 holes on the top and one on the bottom and is tuned in Do. It is equipped with Medir reeds, one of the best reeds available on the market today and appreciated by most professional musicians.
